A quick thought on ADD

IMHO, ADHD is the result of a brain, that was not conditioned through childhood, to learn how to keep the focus of awareness, on a single task. A better way to explain it might be – the inability to not be distracted.

So, if that skill is lacking in the brain, the brain needs to be reprogrammed to put it back in, rather than chemically trying to adjust it.

But what gets in the way of the reprogramming – is the belief that you might “miss out” on something, FOMO!

The problem of this unconditioned part of the brain is further compounded, if the person is extroverted, creative or has a good imagination – because, then, EVERYTHING is interesting and everything is a distraction…..

Which basically means “I can’t concentrate on one thing.”

So, it is hard, but the brain CAN be reconditioned, through knowing what to do and intense repetition – and importantly, picking one intention and staying with it no matter what else happens around you.

There is not enough space here to outline the complexities of this process – but my Patreon course is slowly building a resource of videos that explains this and how to reprogram your own brain!

PS in the meantime, if you have a task to do, put your phone away, turn off the TV, sit down and do it – and each time you get distracted, ignore that distraction (even if it is fun) and come back to the task in hand.

Will it be boring? Yes! Then, repetition, repetition, repetition – eventually your brain will learn to be less distracted and you will be able to focus more. This is called brain malleability and is scientifically proven.

PPS Remember too, that thoughts are distractions and they too need to be learned to be ignored, which is what meditation is all about, not stopping the thoughts, just learning to ignore them.
